Over the last two weeks, alumni of our institution have shared accounts of inequitable and dismaying experiences at HUC and in the field over the past decades – and we thank them for coming forward. We are anguished and upset by what we have heard and want to assure you that we at HUC take these accounts very seriously. We are determined to continue to listen and to take action.

HUC’s Board of Governors and administration are committed to hearing and understanding these experiences with integrity and compassion. To that end, we have begun a process of engaging an external, independent organization to undertake a thorough review, ensuring impartiality of the process. In doing so, we will seek to hear people’s truths, undertake teshuvah, and ensure both accountability and change, as warranted.

We will proceed with fairness and respect for all involved. And we will not hesitate to take all actions needed to ensure the well-being, dignity, and respect of every single individual in our community. This is our greatest priority.

This work, however painful and challenging it may be, will be undertaken with thoughtfulness and urgency.

We will keep you informed of key steps that we undertake as we strive to bring about reconciliation on behalf of our entire community.
