HUC-JIR Soup Kitchen
30+ Years of Feeding Our Community
Dear Friends,
For over thirty years, we have welcomed between 80-100 guests into our home every Monday evening as part of the HUC-JIR/New York Soup Kitchen. HUC-JIR students, community members, and volunteers greet guests with a friendly smile and lead them inside for a warm meal and an hour of shelter.
“I travel over an hour and a half from Queens to come here every Monday because I like how this place makes me feel. With smiling children and the ability to get warm clothes and good food, it feels like home.”
- Soup Kitchen Guest
As our numbers continue to grow, we are working hard to expand our service to reach as many guests as possible. The Soup Kitchen depends on the generosity of our community to accomplish these goals, and we thank you for your continued support. We are especially excited to host our Annual Benefit on March 7, 2019 for an evening featuring Elana Arian and Noah Aronson, as well as an auction, to help us raise money for our continued and new initiatives.
The Soup Kitchen works hard to sustain the whole guest. Monday night service includes live music from world-renowned jazz musicians, creating a festive atmosphere and elevating the experience that guests have while they enjoy their meals. Guests also have the opportunity to meet with NYU law students, who offer free legal aid, and to select items from our growing clothing and toiletries closet. In addition to a dedicated group of weekly volunteers, we are thrilled to have a fully-booked schedule of volunteers from schools, synagogues, and youth groups (both Jewish and non-Jewish) from the tri-state area.
“I first started to come volunteer at the HUC-JIR Soup Kitchen because I wanted to give back, but what I didn’t realize was how much I would get in return.”

Please consider supporting our efforts by making a gift online. A contribution of $36 provides six meals, $72 feeds a table of guests, and $1,000 underwrites an entire evening of Soup Kitchen services. Your gift makes a difference.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
With Gratitude,
The HUC-JIR Soup Kitchen Leadership Team
